OnePlus has announced a major shift in its camera strategy for the upcoming OnePlus 15, replacing its long-standing collaboration with Hasselblad with Oppo’s new LUMO imaging system. The change was confirmed by OnePlus China President Li Jie, who said the move marks a new phase in the brand’s mobile imaging efforts and that the OnePlus 15 will be the company’s most photography-focused phone to date.
Launch timing and Pricing
OnePlus expects to launch the OnePlus 15 in India around November. The flagship is being positioned as a premium device, with global pricing for the top-tier 16GB/512GB model estimated at about $1,260 (roughly Rs. 1,10,600). Indian pricing is rumoured to start between Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 75,000 for the base model.
Design and durability
The OnePlus 15 adopts a square-ish rear camera module similar to the OnePlus 13s and will be available in a new Sandstorm colour option. The phone uses an aerospace-grade nano-ceramic metal frame and carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Display upgrades
OnePlus is upgrading the screen to a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPO AMOLED panel co-developed with BOE, with a variable refresh rate up to 165Hz. The display will feature ultra-slim bezels reportedly around 1.15mm, promising a more immersive viewing experience and improved touch responsiveness.
Performance and connectivity
The OnePlus 15 is confirmed to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The phone includes a dedicated G2 gaming network chip to improve online gaming connectivity and introduces Android’s first “Touch Display Sync” for faster touch response.
Cooling and battery
A new “Glacier Cooling System” is said to use a larger vapour chamber, a dual-layer capillary structure, and a material dubbed Glacier Supercritical Aerogel to manage heat during heavy use. The OnePlus 15 is tipped to pack a 7,300mAh battery and to support 120W wired fast charging alongside 50W wireless charging.
Camera system and LUMO imaging
OnePlus will replace Hasselblad’s joint-engineering branding with Oppo’s LUMO imaging platform, which focuses on refined light, colour, and depth processing to deliver realistic images with balanced tones and improved exposure. Outside China the engine will be marketed as DetailMax. Despite ending the Hasselblad partnership, OnePlus will retain familiar camera features such as Master Mode, Hasselblad-tuned colour calibration, and the wide cinematic aspect ratio.
Industry reports indicate a triple 50MP camera array: a main Sony LYT-700 sensor with optical image stabilisation, a 50MP OmniVision OV50D ultra-wide, and a 50MP Samsung JN5 periscope telephoto offering 3.5x optical zoom and an 85mm-equivalent focal length for improved portrait clarity. The device is expected to support 4K video at 120fps, Dolby Vision recording, and Pro XDR image processing.
Market implications
The OnePlus 15’s move to an in-house and Oppo Group-backed imaging solution signals OnePlus’s intent to consolidate camera development internally and differentiate its premium offering. The combination of a high-refresh 1.5K display, flagship Snapdragon performance, a large battery, and a photography-first camera stack positions OnePlus to compete directly with other top-tier smartphone makers
