Reliance Jio offers free Google AI Pro to select 5G users in India

Reliance Jio and Google on Thursday announced a major partnership that will give select Jio 5G users free access to Google AI Pro, a move described by both companies as a step to broaden consumer access to advanced artificial intelligence tools across India.

What the offer includes

Eligible Jio customers aged 18 to 25 who subscribe to Jio’s unlimited 5G packs will receive an 18-month subscription to Google AI Pro at no cost. The plan, normally valued at Rs 35,100 per user, bundles access to:

  • Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google’s multimodal AI model
  • Nano Banana for AI image generation
  • Veo 3.1 for AI video generation
  • Notebook LM, an AI assistant for study and research
  • 2TB of cloud storage

Users will be notified in the MyJio app and can activate the subscription through the app once eligibility is automatically verified.

Rollout and future expansion

Reliance said the initial free offer targets the 18–25 age group on unlimited 5G packs as a limited-period pilot, with a nationwide rollout to all eligible customers planned in the coming months. The company said it aims to complete the expansion “in the shortest time possible.”

Strategic intent and enterprise plans

Reliance and Google framed the collaboration as more than a consumer promotion, calling it a strategic push to democratize AI across India. The partnership will also extend to enterprises: Reliance Intelligence will act as Google Cloud’s go-to-market partner for Gemini Enterprise, enabling businesses to build intelligent agents to automate operations.

Infrastructure collaboration

The companies will cooperate on infrastructure by bringing Google Cloud’s Tensor Processing Units to India. Reliance and Google said making these AI accelerators available locally could accelerate AI research, product development, and scaling for startups and enterprise customers in the country.

Leadership comments

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, said Reliance Intelligence’s mission is to make “intelligence services accessible to 1.45 billion Indians,” adding that the collaboration with long-term partners like Google aims to make India “AI-empowered.” Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, called Reliance a “longstanding partner” and said the companies are extending their joint efforts—from affordable internet and smartphones—into the AI era.

Significance

Analysts say the deal brings one of India’s largest consumer-facing rollouts of premium AI services, combining Reliance’s distribution scale with Google’s AI products. The offer could accelerate consumer and enterprise adoption of generative AI tools while strengthening local AI infrastructure and commercial ecosystems.
