Apple Set to Launch First Foldable iPhone in 2026: What to Expect?

Apple is gearing up to enter the foldable smartphone market with its first-ever iPhone Fold, expected to launch in fall 2026. Codenamed V68 internally, the device is rumoured to mirror the form factor of Samsung’s Z Fold series, unfolding into a compact tablet-like display.

According to industry insiders, the iPhone Fold will sport a crease-minimized, in-cell touchscreen—an evolution from Apple’s earlier on-cell touch experiments. This new display technology aims to enhance touch accuracy while reducing the visible fold line that often plagues competing models.

On the camera front, the foldable iPhone is said to feature a dual rear setup comprising a high-resolution primary sensor paired with either an ultra-wide or telephoto lens. Selfie duties will be handled by two front-facing cameras: one on the exterior cover screen and another on the main display when unfolded.

Biometric security will rely on Touch ID rather than Face ID, a decision believed to help keep the device’s thickness below five millimetres at its fold. Apple is also expected to omit a physical SIM tray, pushing all cellular connectivity through eSIM technology.

Apple’s own C2 modem is slated to power the iPhone Fold’s connectivity, replacing Qualcomm chips used in current iPhone models. Suppliers have reportedly begun early production runs, with full-scale manufacturing ramping up in the first half of 2026.

The foldable iPhone is planned to debut alongside the iPhone 18 series, including the rumoured iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, and Pro Max. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 model may be postponed until 2027. Initial colour options are limited to black and white, though Apple’s final lineup could expand closer to launch.
