Google is rolling Android 16 update for Pixel 6a to reduce its battery overheating issue.

Under the battery replacement program, Google will roll out mandatory Android 16 software update for all Pixel 6a devices from July 8 to reduce the battery overheating problem.
The Issue
Google has identified that some Pixel 6a phones are overheating and it can be dangerous to the users. So, to reduce the battery overheating All Pixel 6a devices will receive a mandatory automatic software update to Android 16, with roll out starting July 8 2025, but only Impacted Devices will receive the battery management features.
How it Works
Once the update installed, it will enable advanced battery management features designed to prevent overheating and possible damage. But it will only activate after the device reaches 400 full charge cycles. until then, the battery management features will be inactive. After completing 375 charge cycle Users of impacted devices will receive an alert giving them a reminder that the new battery management features will be activated soon.
This update will reduce battery life between charges and slower the charging rates. Google said that after the update the device may show unusual battery levels, but it will be temporary.
Earlier this year a user shared an image of his Pixel 6a with swollen battery and another user reported that a Pixel 6a exploded due to battery overheating.
Offers
After Knowing these issues Google is offering free repairs for devices enrolled in the Battery Performance Programme. Google is also offering cash compensation or discount on purchasing a new Pixel device for the effected users. Cash compensation and discount is available for regions where battery replacement is unavailable or inconvenient.
Starting July 21st, Google is offering free battery replacements in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and India. There will be Mail-in repair available in the United States and India.
