Nothing Teases Nothing OS 4.0 with Redesigned Interface and AI Dashboard

Nothing Technologies on Thursday previewed Nothing OS 4.0, its next major Android 16–based software update, promising a sharper design, smarter dark mode and smoother multitasking.

Nothing OS 4.0 Features

The company says the updated interface will feature standardised components, reimagined lock-screen clocks and a cleaner Quick Settings layout to deliver a more unified, clutter-free experience. A teaser video hints at new icons—including an umbrella symbol and a circular, wheel-like graphic—alongside a square-icon to-do widget and pill-shaped toggles.

Nothing OS 4.0 will introduce an Extra Dark Mode designed to reduce eye strain and conserve battery life by deepening the system’s signature dark aesthetic.

The new Pop-up View multitasking feature supports two floating windows for faster task switching. Swiping up from the bottom edge will minimise a window, while a downward pull expands it fullscreen.

Under-the-hood optimisations will fine-tune app launch times and responsiveness, boosting overall system performance across all supported devices.

Photography enthusiasts can expect enhancements to the Camera and Gallery apps, including new controls, creative presets and a streamlined layout for easier navigation.

An AI usage dashboard and on-screen AI status hints will give users greater control over built-in intelligent features, with privacy safeguards to protect personal data during AI interactions.

Further refinements include a more responsive lock screen and always-on display, clearer brightness controls, stronger Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, system stability improvements and faster access to Bluetooth recording.

Nothing OS 4.0 will be available for the following smartphones:
