Vivo today announced the launch of OriginOS 6, its Android 16-based interface, for Vivo and iQOO smartphones outside China. The update officially replaces FunTouch OS in international markets and brings refined visuals, smoother performance, and a suite of AI-powered features to eligible devices.
Phased Global Rollout Begins in November
Vivo confirmed that OriginOS 6 will roll out globally in phases starting November 2025. While the company has yet to reveal the full update roadmap, the new release promises improvements in speed, stability, and user experience.
Enhanced Smoothness with Origin Smooth Engine
Vivo says the new Origin Smooth Engine integrates computing, storage, and display modules to deliver a seamlessly fluid experience. Key performance gains include:
- 18.5% faster app cold starts
- 10.5% more stable frame rates
- Up to 106% increase in data loading speeds
- 35% boost in animation performance
A new Origin Animation System introduces motion effects like Spring Animation, Blur Transition, Morphing Animation, and One-Shot Animation. Additionally, the Snap-Up Engine intelligently allocates processing power to high-priority tasks, such as ticket bookings or digital payments.
Refreshed Design Language
Built on the Origin Design System, OriginOS 6 standardizes UI elements—colour, iconography, imagery, typography, and depth—for a cohesive look. Highlights include:
- Vivo Sans font supporting over 40 languages
- Translucent Colour and Dynamic Glow effects for layered depth
- Lock Screen Grid enabling widget arrangement, custom fonts, and personalized photos
- New 4×7 home-screen layout with adaptive folders and Flip Cards
Vivo has also updated core apps—iManager, Origin Health, and Weather—with redesigned interfaces and smoother animations.
AI-Powered Innovations
The centrepiece of Vivo’s AI push is Origin Island, inspired by Apple’s Dynamic Island. Integrated with Android 16’s Live Updates, it delivers contextual information and quick actions at the top of the screen. Notable AI tools include:
- Copy and Go: Use copied data instantly for calls, messages, or scheduling
- Drag and Go: Seamlessly drag content between suggested apps
- AI Retouch Suite: Combines AI Erase, AI Image Expander, and AI Photo Enhance
- Smart Call Assistant, DocMaster, AI Creation, AI Search, Office Kit, One-Tap Transfer
- Google’s Circle to Search and Gemini Live support
